Jewish music tends to be in a minor mode even though it is rarely “sad”. Hatikvah, the national anthem has an uplifting text but is one, if not the only national anthem, in a minor mode.
One very important part of klezmer is the dreydlekh or “krek” or “krekhtsn” in the music.
